Bluebell Rail Line

The massive part that preserved railways now play in British tourism started with the reopening of the Bluebell Line in East Sussex, on August 8, 1960. At Horsted Keynes, a station master in Victorian costume flags off the first train, which departs hauled by London Brighton & South Coast Terrier A1 class tank engine No. 55 Stepney. Built in 1875 at Brighton, Stepney was bought for £750 from British Railways, and is also seen at Sheffield Park. The Bluebell Railway celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. *** Local Caption *** The station master wearing period costume, flags off the first run of the Bluebell train after the opening of the Bluebell line.
